Volunteer Work Abroad in Argentina - Micro-financing Assistance with Fundacion AFOS

Country: Argentina

Program type: Micro Credit

Program Name: Micro-financing Assistance-Volunteer Abroad in Argentina Fundacion AFOS

Overview: Volunteers Abroad are needed to help the citizens of Córdoba. Fundacion AFOS, in conjunction with its partners in Argentina, have created volunteer abroad programs in hopes to develop surrounding communities, teach abraod disadvantaged children, and establish faith for the future of the Córdoba citizens. If you are searching for an opportunity to make a difference, Fundacion AFOS can assist you in finding the right volunteer work abroad for you.

Córdoba is located near the middle of Argentina, tucked in the foothills of Sierras Chicas. Here, volunteers abroad will find a city full of cultural events and entertainment: these include touring historical monuments, festivals, and football matches in Córdoba Stadium.

Several volunteer abroad programs are available through Fundacion AFOS; however, if you do not find one in your desired field, you can always ask about areas. We want to match you with the program that best utilizes your skills. Some volunteer work abroad programs include: offering professional support to non-profit organizations, aiding the disabled, assisting underprivileged children, and organizing community expansion.

Description: In Argentina, the biggest problem faced by its people is unemployment and a scarce job market, specifically for those with little or no resources. Through the Micro-financing voluntary work program, volunteers abroad can change the financially weak communities through micro-enterprises and self-employment, so that the standard of living can be improved and citizens can gain financial independence.

Since jobs are in short supply, international volunteers will work with unemployed citizens to develop profitable micro-enterprises and a chance for self-employments. While there are several micro-enterprises in Córdoba presently, there are not sustainable because of a lack of training or skill and resources. With the assistance of international volunteers, these communities can gain the knowledge and skills needed to create and maintain profitable enterprises so they can support themselves and their families.

International volunteers interested in this program are asked to remain in Córdoba for up to three month and must be an intermediate Spanish speaker. Potential volunteers that possess backgrounds in marketing, finance, and management are needed to attain long-term success of these micro-enterprises. Those who have handled micro-enterprises and micro-loans are encouraged to participate in the Micro-financing volunteer work abroad, so they may give assessments and strengthen businesses through their support of the organizations and community.

Basic Requirements: Argentina is a developing country where almost 40% of citizens cannot cover their basic needs, but may appear more advanced than other developing nations due to a high percentage of middle class citizens.  Volunteers Abroad in Argentina should realize this glossy exterior does not mean there is nothing to do.  The level of organization among voluntary assistance projects in Argentina is lacking, so there are opportunities for volunteers to take initiative and follow through with individual contributions as well.

Keep in mind that the acclimatization process for volunteers with intermediate Spanish generally takes 1-2 weeks and the induction to the project takes 2-3 weeks.  Beginners in Spanish can expect the time for these processes to double.  Therefore, the preferred minimum commitment of each volunteer is 15 days, and volunteers committing less than 2-3 weeks shouldn’t expect to accomplish much during their volunteer abroad programs due to lack of time.

The success of your volunteer abroad program is completely dependent upon you and what you want out of it.  A proactive attitude and a willingness to help are essential to making your voluntary work abroad in Argentina a great success.
