Volunteer Work Abroad in Argentina - Homeless Assistance with Fundacion AFOS

Country: Argentina

Program type: Homeless Assistance

Program Name: Homeless Assistance - Volunteer Abroad in Argentina with Fundacion AFOS

Overview: Volunteers Abroad are needed to help the citizens of Córdoba. Fundacion AFOS, in conjunction with its partners in Argentina, have created volunteer work abroad in hopes to develop surrounding communities, teach abraod disadvantaged children, and establish faith for the future of the Córdoba citizens. If you are searching for an opportunity to make a difference, Fundacion AFOS can assist you in finding the right volunteer abroad program for you.

Córdoba is located near the middle of Argentina, tucked in the foothills of Sierras Chicas. Here, volunteers abroad will find a city full of cultural events and entertainment: these include touring historical monuments, festivals, and football matches in Córdoba Stadium.

Several volunteer work abroad programs are available through Fundacion AFOS; however, if you do not find one in your desired field, you can always ask about areas. We want to match you with the program that best utilizes your skills. Some volunteer work abroad programs include: offering professional support to non-profit organizations, aiding the disabled, assisting underprivileged children, and organizing community expansion.

Description: The Homeless Assistance voluntary work abroad program needs the most support due to the unpredictable economy. Volunteers Abroad will provide homeless adults, aged 30 years or older, with short-term lodging, food, healthcare, and emotional support.

Giving the homeless skills and knowledge to improve their lives is the primary objective of this program. In collaboration with shelter staff members, international volunteers will provide support in a number of areas, such as nutrition, treatments for physical and speech therapy, educational workshops and recreational activities.

Volunteers Abroad may plan entertainment and recreational workshops, such as crafts training, athletics and sports, dancing, and films. If volunteers have prior experience working with drug and alcohol addition, they may be asked to provide support for those who are suffering from these ailments. Since improvement of life and eventual independence is one of the project’s goals, training for micro-enterprises is also provided. Volunteers abroad can also qualify to assist in volunteer work abroad that center around micro-enterprises and helping to train those in need. Some of the people in these homeless shelters have endured much pain and suffering in their lives; sometimes, the best thing an volunteer abroad can do is offer emotional support, along with the psychological and physical therapy the homeless already receive. Volunteers Abroad can also help by going with people on doctor’s visits and assisting with health insurance forms (prior experience needed).

Basic Requirements: Argentina is a developing country where almost 40% of citizens cannot cover their basic needs, but may appear more advanced than other developing nations due to a high percentage of middle class citizens.  Volunteers in Argentina should realize this glossy exterior does not mean there is nothing to do.  The level of organization among voluntary assistance projects in Argentina is lacking, so there are opportunities for volunteers to take initiative and follow through with individual contributions as well.

Keep in mind that the acclimatization process for volunteers with intermediate Spanish generally takes 1-2 weeks and the induction to the project takes 2-3 weeks.  Beginners in Spanish can expect the time for these processes to double.  Therefore, the preferred minimum commitment of each volunteer is 15 days, and volunteers committing less than 2-3 weeks shouldn’t expect to accomplish much during their volunteer abroad programs due to lack of time.

The success of your volunteer abroad program is completely dependent upon you and what you want out of it.  A proactive attitude and a willingness to help are essential to making your volunteer work abroad in Argentina a great success.
