Orphanage Volunteer Overseas in Tanzania

volunteer overseas in tanzaniaProgram Name: Volunteer  - Orphanage Assistance in Tanzania with MICATZ

Organization: Maasai International Challenge Africa (MICATZ)

About MICATZ: MICA is a non-profit organization which is located in Arusha, Tanzania and managed by volunteers from all over the world. MICA  specializes in providing volunteer abroad programs in developing countries in Africa and Asia!  MICA organizes international programs for students, groups, individuals, and virtually anyone interested in going abroad and making a difference.

MICA offers a wide range of affordable and unique projects such as teaching English abroad, working at orphanages, healthcare and medical internships overseas, community development projects, women assistance programs, as well as conservation volunteer programs.

Highlights: Like many African countries, Tanzania is plagued by widespread poverty. It is home to thousands of orphans, many of whom have lost parents to HIV/AIDS. Those lucky enough to find their way into an orphanage still face the problem that most orphanages are understaffed and unable to attend to every child’s need. As a volunteer, you can work extensively with the children in the towns of Arusha or Moshi to make sure that their basic needs are met, as well as help to educate them, give them much-needed interaction, and make their lives more enjoyable.

Depending on the specific orphanage and the age range of the children, volunteers may assist the children with: washing, feeding, and general hygiene; going to and from school; playing games and planning fun activities; teaching English and basic skills, and helping with homework.  Not only will you be facilitating daily activities, but you will also help broaden the children’s horizons and act as a positive role model for them.

Volunteer work encompasses a broad range of tasks and can be a very exciting experience. Should you choose to volunteer in one of Tanzania’s many orphanages, you can be sure that you will be making a world of difference.
