Organization: R.O.S.E. Kanda
Description: The Rural Organisation for Social Elevation (ROSE) is also known by its Hindi name of Koormanchal Seva Samsthan (KSS). A small group from the Kanda community of Uttarakhand founded it in 1981, as a non-governmental, non-profit organization.
KSS/ROSE seeks to improve the health, education and quality of life of the rural poor in this region while maintaining cultural integrity and ecological balance. It works at grassroots level, appealing to the community to become active participants in developing a better life for themselves. This goal is realised through a program which brings tourist volunteers to Kanda to live with the Verma family, experience local Kumaoni culture.
Highlights: Some examples of previous projects of KSS/ROSE include the installation of twin-tank latrines, construction of earthquake-proof homes, community educational programs on sanitation and employment generation for the rural unemployed. World wide Brotherhood,community housing projects, latrine and path building, family planning and social safety programs,Natural Disaster relief, Environmentel protection,organic farming and sustainable development, also livelihood improving projects.
Requirements and Qualifications: ROSE is open to all and no formal qualifications are required, each individual brings there own unique skills to the organization and R0SE can accommodate your particular knowledge and experience. The only prerequisites for volunteering with R.O.S E are.
- Patience and willingness to learn , low cost technology / skill and knowledge sharer, helper and supporter.
- Flexibility and adaptability ,obedient to host .
- Honesty and respect for local lifestyles
- A sense of humors!
Experience: If possible then Adjust with host and community, any skill of computer work, Social service, Teaching English,
Languages: English
Volunteer Type: Manual, educational, Computer work, Teaching, organic farming, carpenter, meson, health care, social service, fund raising, appropriate technology any other.
Age: 18 +
Restrictions: Use of drugs or alcohol is strictly prohibited

Cost: Registration fee-Rs.5500/ one time and Rs.600/perday per person for lodging and boarding cost.
