Program Name: Healthcare - Volunteer Abroad in Argentina with Fundacion AFOS
Overview: International volunteers are needed to help the citizens of Córdoba. Fundacion AFOS, in conjunction with its partners in Argentina, have created volunteer abroad programs in hopes to develop surrounding communities, teach disadvantaged children, and establish faith for the future of the Córdoba citizens. If you are searching for an opportunity to make a difference, Fundacion AFOS can assist you in finding international volunteer possibilities.
Córdoba is located near the middle of Argentina, tucked in the foothills of Sierras Chicas. Here, international volunteers will find a city full of cultural events and entertainment: these include touring historical monuments, festivals, and football matches in Córdoba Stadium.
Several volunteer abroad programs are available through Fundacion AFOS; however, if you do not find one in your desired field, you can always ask about areas. We want to match you with the program that best utilizes your skills. Some volunteering abroad programs include: offering professional support to non-profit organizations, aiding the disabled, assisting underprivileged children, and organizing community expansion.
Description: Potential volunteers abroad should consider the Healthcare Volunteer Abroad program if they have received training in the fields of health education or health care. This is a chance to encourage good health and wellness, which will hopefully result in a better quality of life for Córdoba residents. Volunteers must know that these communities do not possess the resources to offer this education to its citizens, so they are needed to teach them. Volunteers Abroad are expected to take initiative and work closely with the Córdoba residents; the community’s active participation is needed to establish health priorities, organize actions, and complete promotional events.
International volunteers can set up workshops to educate Córdoba residents on the following subjects: diet, eating disorders, hygiene, vaccination and preventing diseases, personal care, and contraception. To cultivate general health, the project puts together exercise activities. Volunteers will also promote the health of the city through discussions regarding building cleanliness, reducing waste, and offering plans to execute these goals. Pamphlets and posters can and should be used to create awareness of good health and what the voluntary assistance program can offer the community members. These materials should be designed before volunteers arrive at their project site because the necessities to create them may not be found on site.
Basic Requirements: Argentina is a developing country where almost 40% of citizens cannot cover their basic needs, but may appear more advanced than other developing nations due to a high percentage of middle class citizens. Volunteers Abroad in Argentina should realize this glossy exterior does not mean there is nothing to do. The level of organization among voluntary assistance projects in Argentina is lacking, so there are opportunities for volunteers to take initiative and follow through with individual contributions as well.
Keep in mind that the acclimatization process for volunteers abroad with intermediate Spanish generally takes 1-2 weeks and the induction to the project takes 2-3 weeks. Beginners in Spanish can expect the time for these processes to double. Therefore, the preferred minimum commitment of each volunteer is 15 days, and international volunteers committing less than 2-3 weeks shouldn’t expect to accomplish much during their volunteer abroad programs due to lack of time.
The success of your volunteer abroad program is completely dependent upon you and what you want out of it. A proactive attitude and a willingness to help are essential to making your volunteer abroad program in Argentina a great success.
