Volunteer Abroad in Argentina - Environmental Conservation Project with Fundacion AFOS

Country: Argentina

Program type: Environmental Conservation

Program Name: Environmental Conservation - Volunteer Abroad in Argentina with Fundacion AFOS

Overview: Volunteers Abroad are needed to help the citizens of Córdoba. Fundacion AFOS, in conjunction with its partners in Argentina, have created volunteer work abroad programs in hopes to develop surrounding communities, teach abraod disadvantaged children, and establish faith for the future of the Córdoba citizens. If you are searching for an opportunity to make a difference, Fundacion AFOS can assist you in finding the right volunteer abroad program for you.

Córdoba is located near the middle of Argentina, tucked in the foothills of Sierras Chicas. Here, volunteers abroad will find a city full of cultural events and entertainment: these include touring historical monuments, festivals, and football matches in Córdoba Stadium.

Several volunteer abroad programs are available through Fundacion AFOS; however, if you do not find one in your desired field, you can always ask about areas. We want to match you with the program that best utilizes your skills. Some volunteering abroad programs include: offering professional support to non-profit organizations, aiding the disabled, assisting underprivileged children, and organizing community expansion.

Description: Potential volunteer abroad applicants interested in nature preservations should consider the Conservation volunteer work abroad program. Volunteers abroad will have the chance to team up with conservation projects to protect the flora and fauna of Córdoba. They will also work with animals and plants, particularly those that are endangered or close to extinction. It is through the Conservation Volunteer abroad program that we hope to encourage preservation of the natural world, reduce humans’ effect on the planet, and hopefully reverse some of the damage that has been done.

Volunteers abroad in this program will require some prior experience to participate in some of the work. These include feeding indigenous animals in nature preserves and providing veterinary help to animal. Other duties include advocating environment preservation to tourists, maintaining and cleaning of animals’ habitats, and care for and replanting of flora. This project is truly for nature lovers; while housing and food is included, you may not always have the comforts of urban living. Since the environmental conservation groups in Argentina are less than organized, be prepared to motivate yourself as well as others, and help out with planning whenever possible. Remember to always be patient, though.

There are a few requirements to consider when thinking about joining the Conservation volunteer abroad program. You must have an intermediate knowledge of the Spanish language, a rabies vaccination, and health insurance coverage for working with animals.

Participants can merge the Environmental Conservation voluntary assistance program with Spanish classes and other voluntary work abroad programs prior to or after eco-volunteering. If you would like more information concerning this, please request it when you send in your application. The Conservation volunteer may have differing costs than those shown on the website. If you have questions, please contact us for more information.

Basic Requirements: Argentina is a developing country where almost 40% of citizens cannot cover their basic needs, but may appear more advanced than other developing nations due to a high percentage of middle class citizens.  Volunteers Abroad in Argentina should realize this glossy exterior does not mean there is nothing to do.  The level of organization among voluntary assistance projects in Argentina is lacking, so there are opportunities for volunteers to take initiative and follow through with individual contributions as well.

Keep in mind that the acclimatization process for volunteers with intermediate Spanish generally takes 1-2 weeks and the induction to the project takes 2-3 weeks.  Beginners in Spanish can expect the time for these processes to double.  Therefore, the preferred minimum commitment of each volunteer is 15 days, and volunteers committing less than 2-3 weeks shouldn’t expect to accomplish much during their volunteer work abroad programs due to lack of time.

The success of your volunteer abroad program is completely dependent upon you and what you want out of it.  A proactive attitude and a willingness to help are essential to making your voluntary work abroad program in Argentina a great success.
