Program Name: Volunteer Abroad - Elephant Conservation in Thailand with MICATZ
Organization: Maasai International Challenge Africa (MICATZ)
About MICATZ: MICA is a non-profit organization which is located in Arusha, Tanzania and managed by volunteers from all over the world. MICA specializes in providing volunteer abroad programs in developing countries in Africa and Asia! MICA organizes international programs for students, groups, individuals, and virtually anyone interested in going abroad and making a difference.
MICA offers a wide range of affordable and unique projects such as teaching English abroad, working at orphanages, healthcare and medical internships overseas, community development projects, women assistance programs, as well as conservation volunteer programs.
Highlights: In the past MICATZ has offered many volunteer abroad projects concerning elephant conservation in Thailand. We are now pleased to offer an entirely new opportunity in this genre. With people waiting expectantly for more than two months, on January 6th, 2011, Kham Saen became a proud new mother to a male baby elephant. Even on his first day, and despite having wobbly legs, the energetic newborn still managed to knock things over and stir up a bit of trouble. Kham Saen will be taking a “maternity leave,” and will be looked after in this special project. She and her son will be brought daily to a nearby pond to bathe, and after a few months, once Kham Saen has recovered a bit more and her son has grown a little, they will rejoin the herd.
In addition to the sheer grandeur of the elephants and the experience that comes along with it, Thailand itself has a lot to offer. Consistently one of the most sought-after vacation spots, Thailand possesses turquoise seas with palm-fringed beaches, jungle-covered mountains, and serene villages. In Thailand you can find anything from golden temples to booming nightclubs, and everything in between. Thailand is a rich cultural experience that is not to be missed.
