volunteer overseas in tanzaniaProgram Name: Volunteer Abroad - Teaching English in Tanzania with MICATZ

Organization: Maasai International Challenge Africa (MICATZ)

About MICATZ: MICA is a non-profit organization which is located in Arusha, Tanzania and managed by volunteers from all over the world. MICA  specializes in providing volunteer abroad programs in developing countries in Africa and Asia!  MICA organizes international programs for students, groups, individuals, and virtually anyone interested in going abroad and making a difference.

MICA offers a wide range of affordable and unique projects such as teaching English abroad, working at orphanages, healthcare and medical internships overseas, community development projects, women assistance programs, as well as conservation volunteer programs.

Highlights: The official languages of Tanzania are Swahili and English, with many tribal languages also remaining prevalent. Left over from colonial days, English is on the decline; however, it is still extremely important especially in the areas of higher education and law. Given its importance, it is problematic that there are too few qualified instructors to teach it. This is especially a problem in rural areas, where teachers and many resources in general are scarce.

Combine your knowledge of the English language and your desire to make a difference to a community and volunteer abroad in Tanzania’s schools. You can choose to teach at a nursery, or at a primary or secondary school. Students are also in need of instruction in other subjects, such as math or science, and would also benefit from extracurricular activities.
If you have an interest in teaching, a firm grasp of the English language, and a humanitarian streak, then volunteering in Tanzania’s schools is the perfect project for you.
