Program Name: Medical Volunteer Work in Tanzania with MICATZ
Organization: Maasai International Challenge Africa (MICATZ)
About MICATZ: MICA is a non-profit organization which is located in Arusha, Tanzania and managed by volunteers from all over the world. MICA specializes in providing volunteer work programs in developing countries in Africa and Asia! MICA organizes international programs for students, groups, individuals, and virtually anyone interested in going abroad and making a difference.
MICA offers a wide range of affordable and unique projects such as teaching English abroad, working at orphanages, healthcare and medical internships overseas, community development projects, women assistance programs, as well as conservation volunteer work abroad programs.
Highlights: Many countries in Africa lack the resources to fund sufficient health care infrastructure. This results in understaffed clinics which may not always be able to attend to the needs of every patient. To further complicate the situation, many patients are too poor to afford proper treatment; sometimes this means that the patient will not have the means to buy prescribed medicine, or that a doctor will not be able to use the already-limited resources of the clinic, such as an x-ray machine, to correctly diagnose and treat a patient. With the prevalence of conditions such as HIV/AIDS and malaria, proper treatment is critical, but cannot always be attained.
If you are a doctor, nurse, or medical student, you can be placed in a volunteer position at one of many clinics in Tanzania. Your skills and expertise can be used to help the clinic run more smoothly and provide excellent care to the community. Depending on your knowledge and practical experience, you will have the opportunity to diagnose and treat patients with a variety of conditions, or even offer support in such areas as minor surgical treatment, deliveries, and pre- and post-natal care. Duties may also include preventive care, especially in areas such as family planning and child welfare.
Volunteering abroad in one of Tanzania’s clinics would be a blessing to the community. Using your skills and knowledge, you can help bring quality care to those in need.
