About MICATZ: MICA is a non-profit organization which is located in Arusha, Tanzania and managed by volunteers from all over the world. MICA specializes in providing volunteer abroad programs in developing countries in Africa and Asia! MICA organizes international programs for students, groups, individuals, and virtually anyone interested in going abroad and making a difference.
MICA offers a wide range of affordable and unique projects such as teaching English abroad, working at orphanages, healthcare and medical internships overseas, community development projects, women assistance programs, as well as conservation volunteer programs.
Highlights: Medical and pre-medical internships abroad or volunteer projects will be arranged in private clinics as well as government hospitals in and around Kathmandu and Chitwan.
Departments:
1. OPD Services:
-Surgical Oncology OPD, which includes general surgical oncology and GI oncology, thoracic oncology, gynecology, urology, head and neck services, neurosurgery,and orthopedic OPDs.
-Medical Oncology OPD
-Radiation Oncology OPD
2. Day care services:
These services are used for IV hydration, chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and other short procedures.
3. Indoor services:
Patients are admitted for surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and supportive care and
management. There are two major operation rooms and one minor operation room; both operate six days a week for different types of surgeries.
4. Radiology diagnosis and imaging:
This department provides various types of diagnostic services for cancer detection. The department has two general x-ray machines, one ultrasound machine, one fluoroscopy machine, one mammogram machine and one helical CT scan.
5. Pathology services:
This department firmly believes in its motto, “Accurate diagnosis is backbone for appropriate treatment of cancer.” The Pathology department provides services in Cytopathology, Histopathology, Immunohematology, Hematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Clinical Pathology, as well as 24 hour emergency services.
6. Endoscopy services:
Two video endoscopes allow endoscopic examination of hollow cavities of the body.
7. Other services:
-Medical records services: A computerized medical record system keeps patient records
-Hospice service: Serving terminally ill patients; is available with services of a palliative care specialist and palliative care nurses.
-Ambulance service: Two ambulances provide services to the hospital. A special vehicle for cadavers is also available.
-Library service: For health research, in particular cancer-related studies.
-Physiotherapy and acupuncture services: Different services are available with different services for post-mastectomy and other cases.
