Law and Human Rights Internship in South Africa with Projects Abroad

Country: South Africa

Program type: Human Rights

Human Rights Internship Abroad in South Africa

Internships with Projects AbroadProgram Name: Human Rights Internship

Organization: Projects Abroad

About Projects Abroad: Projects Abroad was founded in 1992 when Dr. Peter Slowe, a university professor, realized the need for international programs that involve travelling and working abroad at the same time. A couple of his students approached him with an idea of spending a gap year in Eastern Europe. Knowing some colleagues in Romania, Dr. Peter Slowe set up a teaching English program for his students which gave a jump start to Projects Abroad.

Student by student Projects Abroad began sending participants on Teach English Abroad programs in Eastern Europe. Realizing the need for international volunteers in developing countries, Projects Abroad began growing and expanding its programs to many other countries all over the world. In addition to volunteer programs, Project Abroad now offers international internships as well.

Whether you are 16 or 75, a high school student or a retired professional, volunteering overseas is something that will change your life forever. No matter what your background or age is, Projects Abroad will find the right volunteer or internship abroad program for you!

Highlights: Once a Dutch colony, South Africa has faced its own set of one-of-a-kind social issues, most notably the not-so-distant apartheid regime. After its abolition, of lot of injustices and inequalities remained. Much of the nation’s people are impoverished, and do not have knowledge of basic legal rights or the power to assert them. When you partake in an international internship in Cape Town, South Africa’s bustling capital, you will empower those you help and allow them better access to their rights. You can choose a number of specialized internships, dealing in such areas as women’s rights, child protection, prisoner’s rights, and election monitoring, to name a few. Your tasks may include providing free legal advice, conducting interviews, preparing materials for the media, and raising awareness among people in several communities. Whatever area you choose, this rigorous and exciting experience will give your law education a definite boost.
