Whether you are a practicing scientist, or a graduate student interested in gathering hands-on research for a thesis, there are organizations that are more than willing to assist. VolNepal can use its connections to point you in the right direction, as well as provide a place to stay. This allows you to focus on your work and research, rather than on the small details of traveling within and adjusting to a foreign country.
Orientation: Volunteers Abroad are welcomed by a VolNepal representative at the airport in Kathmandu, before being guided to their new home. After arrival and getting acquainted with the area, volunteers then have personal meetings with the representative to determine how to best utilize the intern's skills, time and experience.
Project Start Dates: Help is needed year-round. Interns determine their own start dates.
Accommodations: Volunteer Abroad will typically live with a host family that is involved with VolNepal. Two or three meals per day will be provided to you by your host family, depending on the individual situation. Assistance will be provided to help ensure safe and reliable transportation to, from, and within Nepal.
Project Duration and Cost: The maximum length of stay in Nepal is currently 5 months on a traveler’s visa, in accordance with the government. Although the duration of a volunteer’s stay is entirely up to the individual, and always appreciated, a longer stay is certainly more valuable and useful to the students. Volunteer Abroad fees vary, based on the length of stay and the nature of the placement with VolNepal. And remember that it is less costly to visit once for a longer stay, than to make multiple short trips. Please contact a representative of VolNepal for more details.

- Possess a motivated desire to help others
- Good mental and physical health
- Absolutely no chemical dependency
- No criminal background
