Community Work Volunteer Abroad program in Morocco

Volunteer Work with Projects AbroadProgram Name: Community Volunteer Work in Morocco with Projects Abroad

Organization: Projects Abroad

About Projects Abroad: Projects Abroad was founded in 1992 when Dr. Peter Slowe, a university professor, realized the need for international programs that involve travelling and working abroad at the same time. A couple of his students approached him with an idea of spending a gap year in Eastern Europe. Knowing some colleagues in Romania, Dr. Peter Slowe set up a teaching English program for his students which gave a jump start to Projects Abroad.

Student by student Projects Abroad began sending participants on Teach English Abroad programs in Eastern Europe. Realizing the need for international volunteers in developing countries, Projects Abroad began growing and expanding its programs to many other countries all over the world. In addition to volunteer programs, Project Abroad now offers international internships as well.

Whether you are 16 or 75, a high school student or a retired professional, volunteering overseas is something that will change your life forever. No matter what your background or age is, Projects Abroad will find the right volunteer or internship abroad program for you!

Highlights: There are many different fields to choose from when you decide to volunteer abroad in Morocco. The following are some of the options you could choose:

  • Care: There are so many children that could benefit from your care and attention. Some of them have special needs, and some simply need a responsible adult to guide them. You can choose from a few different types of youth centers, which will each house children with varied needs. Many youth centers are understaffed, so your efforts will be greatly appreciated (both by staff and children). Various tasks and activities include helping with homework, playing games with the children, helping with daily care, or taking the children on field trips.
  • Nomad Project: Morocco is known for its large nomad population. Families throughout the centuries have wandered the desert raising livestock, searching for water, and cultivating a rich, deep-rooted heritage. On a nomad volunteer abroad project, you will spend some time living with a nomad family – partaking in daily chores, building nomadic homes, tending to livestock, and participating in centuries-old traditions. This is truly the authentic experience!
  • Sports: Sports are a great way to involve youth in healthy team-building activities, boost their self-confidence, and keep them off the streets. There are two different projects offered: one centered around soccer, the other around basketball. If you choose a sports project, you will have the opportunity to work with poorer youth aged 6-16 who may or may not have ever received formal schooling. You will serve not only as a coach but also as a valuable role model. Make a difference while having fun and being active!
  • Teaching: The top three languages of Morocco are Arabic, French, and English. Even though English is number three, students still do not get enough exposure to the language. The best way for students to learn is from a native English speaker. This is a perfect volunteer abroad opportunity for you if you love working with kids and would like to get teaching experience. French language skills are also appreciated, because students could benefit from acquiring a firmer grasp of that language as well. You don’t need any previous teaching experience, just patience and a desire to foster learning.

If you possess computer skills, you can also make a difference In Moroccan communities. The IT Project involves teaching teenagers and adults how to use computers, especially using the internet and software applications like Microsoft Office. In this day and age, technological literacy is a top priority, and you will be giving your students invaluable skills.
