About Projects Abroad: It was founded in 1992 when Dr. Peter Slowe, a university professor, realized the need for international programs that involve travelling and working abroad at the same time. A couple of his students approached him with an idea of spending a gap year in Eastern Europe. Knowing some colleagues in Romania, Dr. Peter Slowe set up a teaching English program for his students which gave a jump start to Projects Abroad.
Student by student Projects Abroad began sending participants on Teach English Abroad programs in Eastern Europe. Realizing the need for international volunteers in developing countries, Projects Abroad began growing and expanding its programs to many other countries all over the world.
Whether you are 16 or 75, a high school student or a retired professional, volunteering overseas is something that will change your life forever. No matter what your background or age is, Projects Abroad will find the right volunteer abroad program for you!

- Orphanage Care: Ghana is a fascinating country full of rich natural resources, traditions, history and great people. Unfortunately, the uncontrolled spread of HIV/AIDS caused high infant mortality rates, low life expectancy, and left thousands of children without parents and even family members. Huge numbers of orphans, lack of staff and resources to care for them created a need for international volunteers like you to provide assistance in orphanages. Orphanage care volunteer abroad program is perfect for anyone. Volunteers don’t need any special sets of skill or experience. All that volunteers need to have is excitement, energy, desire to help and enthusiasm.
- Community Farming: our farm is located on the rural Akuapem Hills just hours away from Accra. Community Farming volunteer abroad program provides an opportunity for every volunteer to work on a small community organic farm where volunteers plant new seeds and herbs, fence and net the area, build, work with soil, etc…Oranges, carrots, papaya, onions, and a variety of herbs are grown on this organic farm. Rabbits, geese, and guinea pigs are also raised on this farm. This is a fun volunteer abroad project that concentrates on sustainable organic farming and conservation which raises awareness among younger generations.
