Russia-Current Issues
Although Russia is a rapidly rising country it still faces certain challenges and issues. One of the most recent problems encountered by Russia is the collapse of the world trade market. In other words Russia like most of the countries in the world today struggles to effectively overcome the side effects of the financial crisis. On your study abroad or volunteering trip you also may notice that although no longer a communist country, Russia emits a strong sense of its communist past.
Also while traveling or interning in Russia you may find that the corruption level among police, government employees and other officials is much higher than it is in other European countries. Among other concerns poverty is still an issue to be dealt with in the Russian society. Although it is not so pronounced in the larger metropolitan areas it still never the less exists. However while volunteering or studying abroad in Russia you may find a more pronounced middle class today than you would 10 years ago, a sure sign that Russia is on its way to becoming economically stable again.
