Kathmandu is a fast paced and fast developing city in Nepal. Every year more and more people move to the city, and it marks the beginning of many journeys. Upon first glance, international students and travelers may think Kathmandu is just another over populated and over polluted large city, but they only need to slow down and take the time to appreciate the magnificent city for what it really is. The sights, the smells, the sounds, are truly unique to Nepal. Temples and other architecture stand as relics of Nepal’s long past, and are not to be missed. Nepal’s present is located in the heart of markets like Thamel Chwok. Here, international visitors can interact with locals, and experience what life in the city means in Nepal. Kathmandu is a wonderful place for travelers to do their souvenir shopping and to get acclimated to Nepal. It is a fun and beautiful city, and at times, it is very difficult to leave.
Shey-Phoksundo National Park
The Shey Phoksundo National Park the largest park in Nepal, and was established in the hopes of protecting and preserving the unique ecosystem found in the Himalayas. The best time to visit the park is from November to April, when the weather is nice. Visitors particularly enjoy being able to see some of Nepal’s native plants and animals, many of which are endangered, like the snow leopard, wild yak, Tibetan antelope, and wild ass. The views at the park are spectacular; with mountains, wildlife, and calm waters, it truly is something to behold.
Teahouse Treks in the Everest Region
Teahouse Trekking is a form of planned hiking. Small teahouses scatter the landscape in Nepal, and serve as hostels, which is to say there is a bed and a meal for the weary traveler. There are many guides to help arrange your trek at your own pace, as well as help travelers to see the real rural Nepal. Teahouse Trekking is a way for international students and travelers to get to know local people, as well as other travelers. Be sure to bring a camera and great hiking boots. Both will be used thoroughly.
