Nepal-Current Issues

Nepal is involved with some border disputed in India, and there has been some fighting over control of the source of the Kalapani river. Riots and demonstrations in Nepal over governmental concerns and decisions can get violent, and any international visitors are urged to not become involved.

There are about 120,000 refugees currently living in Nepal.

Many species in the Himalayan region, like the snow leopard, wild yak, Tibetan antelope, and wild ass, are endangered, and need protection and care. Nepal is home to a delicate and unique ecosystem that requires constant care to remain in existence. Conservation volunteers are very important to this effort, and there are many different programs available that are seeking international volunteers currently.
