Amazonian ecosystem is one of the richest plant and animal communities in the world. Ecuador’s Amazon basin is famous for its heavy forests, where trees reach astounding heights of 46 meters. The region’s diverse flora and fauna attracts many tourists every year who come to see nature’s beauty at its best. The Amazon River starts as hundreds of tiny streams high in the Peruvian Andes that will begins to merge into larger rivers as it rushes down the slopes through the Ecuador. During its long journey to the sea, the Amazon River varies in color. Some of the tributaries are called “white” rivers although the color in reality is more comparable to murky yellow or tan. The “black” rivers have dark water due to its depth but the liquid is clearer than the “white” rivers. At the point of Manaus, where the Rio Negro flows in the muddy Amazon, there is a dramatic union between these two rivers. For miles these two rivers would flow side by side clearly defined until they finally merge. This part of Ecuador is full of national parks that protect the extraordinary habitats of the Amazon basin.
