Customs Rules

When visiting Argentina for your study abroad program there are few regulations to take note of.  As standard in most countries, import of non tinned food products, items representing historical, art or archeological value is forbidden. Duty-free import is allowed for the following products: cigarettes up to 200 pieces (or cigars maximum of 25 pieces), alcohol up to 2 liters, tinned food products up to 5 kg., souvenirs and gifts for the sum of no more than 300 US dollars. Make sure to weight these contents, or else a rate of 50% is added to the cost .

You should keep track of all your sales receipt while you shop because it will come in handy later. It is standard practice to receive special sanction of subjects and the items representing historical, art or archeological value, any weapon reproduction before exportation.. Export of products such as wool and leather, ornaments, souvenirs within the limits of personal needs is allowed, but you may need to show the receipt from the store where these products have been purchased. Any export of fur products will definitely need a proof of purchase to deter illegal poaching activities. Although there is no limit on how much foreign and national currency you can carry in and out of the country.
Tipping

When traveling around Argentina you will have a chance to taste some of the delicious dishes that this country has to offer. It will be helpful to know the etiquette as far as the tips go. In Argentina, a 5-10% of the total bill is considered to be a good tip. In some of the more expensive restaurants the tip is often included in the bill.
