Argentina-Current Issues
The issues in Argentina are typical of most developing nations which include poor water quality, deforestation, and soil degradation. All of these problems combine to create widespread hunger, even though according to the Argentine Ministry of Economy in 2007, they exported about 56 billion USD worth of agricultural goods including soybeans, what, and maize. Argentina exports. There is a break between industrial production and sustaining the population.
The following statistics provides a look into ongoing environmental and social issues in Argentina:
-There are about 40 million people in Argentina, and about 53% of population lives in poverty.
- There are a total of 7.7 million children who suffer from hunger.
-In the Province of Jujuy, 56% of children from the Abra Pampas area have an unsafe amount of lead in their blood.
- In 1914 there were about 105 million hectares of forest, but in recent years there is estimated 33 million remaining hectares of forest left.
- Since 1914, two-thirds of Argentina’s native forests have been destroyed. If this destruction continues unchecked, all of Argentina's native forests will be gone by the year 2024.
One of the main problems in Argentina is hunger, and by volunteering you can decrease those numbers. The benefits that the local community will get from your time being there is beyond imagination, in a country were so many people are thinking of survival.
